The Lights & Darks of Yellow

How are you coming along with your yellows for RSC? I'm up to 20 so far, trying to figure how many per color for a good lap size shy of a full I came up with the 200 range but as the months go by I'm thinking it's going to depend how they're place ,it doesn't seem like they'll flow if I have the same amount of each color

I'd seen a while back ,the idea of taking a B/W photo to determine the lights & darks for a better flow of color, does anyone use this method of placing blocks?

I think the idea is like the 2nd one down be swapped out with the one straight across next to the end🤷 I guess there's no need to overthink this method till the whole tops ready to be assembled lol, untill then I'll just keep making my little blocks😄

  1. Oh, I like that block. I don't have a design wall and usually just sew RSC and most other blocks together randomly. Most quilts I make are pretty scrappy and I don't like to dither about layouts too much because if I start dithering I'm never satisfied and a top doesn't ever get made.

  2. I've certainly heard of taking a B&W photo to check the colours but have never used that idea myself. I tend to lay out the blocks on my "design bed", sprinkle the coloursaround, move a few if needed, then stitch them all together. Most of my RSC quilts are children's donation quilts, it's a good way to try new and easy designs.
