Here we Go Again With Crazy Weather

 This weekend is definitely turning into one of those day late & dollar short days 😀 the wind this morning will cut you in half & there's snow flurries but they're so tiny you have to be up on them to see them😀 yesterday we had a warm spurt so I took the girls got to play in the back yard & later to the park

Today I hope to get the blue too together,my niece wants me to make her some burlap hearts for her porch,so I'll get on those in a bit, it's getting colder by the minute so looks like I'll get something done today lol

Its Cold But The Birds Are Hungry

The red winged blackbirds have started coming through,I finally got a shot of a male (red)& female(golden) together ,this morning I seen about 5 or so,the doves usually come in tbe evening,I've always luv the little chickadees 

Come rain or shine,warm temps or bitter temps they let me know they're hungry 🤣 birds do tend to eat more in the winter months,I guess to live off their body fat 🤣 

 

Almost A Flimsy

Hopefully only 3 to go, these blocks were supposed to had been 10 & 1/2 but before I realized they were coming out 10" so when sewn together they may be smaller,  no problem "so far" lol when I laid them out on top of the pink version that  I did on this they came out even but being unsewn may tell a different tale, I'm already stretching the blues to make borders😄

They say  that a black & white photo helps to see if the darks are evened out,  🤔 looks like a little cluster on the right needs reshuffling , we're in for more icy bitter cold temps so with nowhere  to go maybe a lot can get done in the sewing room😄

 

Getting The Kinks Out

I got the patch quilt back out ,spread it all out & removed all the safety pins from the rows remaining to be quilted, smoothed it all back out  flat as possible & repinned it, hopefully it will behave itself & not bunch up again & I can finish quilting it in the upcoming weeks,it will be one of my projects in-between projects 

  

Spite the bitter temps the birds expect to be fed & boy was it cold! I broke up & removed the ice from the water baths,filled the feeders & bout got frost bit cheeks 🤣I noticed the yellow finch had came back but he was too quick to get a picture 

A Few More Blocks

 

A few more blocks,now only 10  to go, between church,lunch with family & usually stopping by the store if I need anything Sunday's  doesn't get much  if any sewing attention "cause I"m tired"😄 we never get snow but once in a blue moon but  temps dropped low enough to send a few flurries, oh the excitement!🤣 my nieces were posting the flurries  so I ran outside & as quick as it teased us it was gone, yep this is all we got 🤣

Do You Ever Miss A Quilt?

 

My first quilt for Angela's Rainbow Scrappy Challenge,I think I started with sewing (2) 2 1/2" sq's together & just going round & round with scrap strips till it got to the desired size of about 9" adding a keyboard border & a glorious light purple polka dotted backing, a few years back I took care of my niece who had went through a servere  hernia surgery for two weeks,she fell in luv with this quilt,so when she was able to go home & be on her own I sent it home with her,I do still miss it from time to time but in a good way,  for I know it's being luved & bringing her joy & I get to see it when I visit 🤣

Old Faithful Is Mended

 I should call this old purchased quilt my Linus blankie 🤣 it has survived wear & tear since ,the 80's or so, as long as it can be mended back together I will luv it,this go round.I dare say I put about as many stitches in mending it as one of my quilts I hand stitch lol  & of course Grace has to fo her inspection making sure I didn't miss a spot which I did miss one tiny spot😀

Working on a small hutch in the bedroom I made some cloth hearts,then that lead to making a pincushion 

we're supposed to be getting serve  weather this weekend,people have gone crazy over milk & bread , there's talk of possible power outages & temps dropping down in the teens,Sunday is supposed to be the worse with everything  getting iced over, Im not worried about having milk & bread,I actually have 2 hamburger buns so I'm  good 🤣 the weather will do what it will do  so we just believe that the lord will protect & take care of us & ride out the storms that come

Suggestions Welcomed

 If this top goes according to plan ,there will need to be only 15 more blocks plus the borders, I haven't squared them up yet ,just getting ideas of a layout

In the last few years I've made one in pinks & one in red white & blue, this split rail block is an easy go to pattern that will make up pretty with every other block is turned the opposite way

I've thought about maybe do the blue slightly different ,not necessarily white strips ,with all the blocks going the same direction ,this is just for idea purposes 🤷so what do you think? maybe a neutral color?

I picked up several spools of threads at Hobby Lobby in yummy colors for hand stitching on Cason's & Livvy's  quilts 

A Whole Lotta Stitching Going On

 And a little slight unstitching 😄 do you ever think you're so close to the finish to discover 2 rows decided to fold over their selves 😄

I'm adding another row to Livvys quilt & getting it ready for stitching today 

Winding down  comes in many forms, each day may be the same or different,today its about this old quilt purchased from Sears so many moons ago,tattered & torn like an old battle ship through the years yet with a little luv it has weathered another mending with tiny stitches,some say just throw that thing away! This old thing as they call it is thick,its soft,its cozy ,I can't explain why I luv it so,I just do,so I will continue to mend it over & over till its utterly impossible

My next big quilt project will be to tackle this church house panel ,just look at alll those areas to stitch but will be so worth it,this will be a surprise for my neighbor s daughter ,she has down syndrome,luvs church & her favorite color is purple

B Is For Blue

 

Blues for RSC ( rainbow scrappy challenge has just a little than two weeks to go,🤔what Will the next color be I wonder? since I don't have enough of several of the colors , I think ,I hope I have enough blues hanging on the make a quilt top,the size I'm going for I need 30 10" blocks, so far I've squeaked out 11

Northern Lights

 This is take 2 on the Northern Lights water color lesson I joined in on yesterday ,this particular live it was difficult to see what she was doing on a small screen,enlarging it which wasn't much hid what she was doing,which I missed a few paint mixes, the tilting if the paper etc.so I watched the reply which was a bit larger screen,took notes & did take 2 this morning 

More Blocks & Random Cutting

 Verizon service was down today,not sure about other locations but I was without service for about 4 hours, till 8 pm ,it kicked out a few rimes so hopefully I can get through this post 

I cut more strips in various blues & sewed 7 more blocks giving me a total of 11

I had a few triskit crackers left so I made what I call Butterfinger wanttabes 😄 you just put peanut butter between 2 & dip in melted chocolate bark,I melt mine in the microwave 

then I pulled out one of my totes with smallest fabric pieces & worked on cutting & triming up

the larger pieces I just squared up

after about an hour or so I accumulated

(3)  5" sq's

(20) 2"sq's

(2) 2 1/2" sq's

(2).2 1/1" random strips

(5) 2 1/2" random strips

anything less than 2" goes into a pile to use for scrapbooking & small projects,then it was time to eat 😄I made chicken & broccoli Alfredo 

cleaned off the table then time for a movie & cup of tea,do you like herbal tea? do you have a favorite? 

tomorrow I will do another live watercolor class,get caught up on bills & get in some quilting time

A Good Start On Blues

 I think I can squeak out a blue top but as far as going with the RSC challenge there's not enough of several colors to make enough blocks for a whole quilt,maybe one day with all tiny squares but Im not feeling tiny blocks right now🤣anyways these blocks are 2 1/2" x  11" in rows of 5 

My  Coca-Cola tray is perfect for keeping the strips organized & in order 

I didn't  pay attention to the width of this piece of fabric & before I knew it I'd cut it all then realized they're 10" so I'm piecing them together to get a 1" strip

The plans for the RSC quilt will require fabric shopping 🙊did I just say that? 🤣

Auditioning My Blues

 

Its hard to believe with the fabrics that I have ,I don't have any🤣 anything remotely blue is shy of a fat quarter size & smaller,maybe 2 or 3 a little  bit larger for the RSC challenge "rainbow scrap" I really don't have enough of all colors to pull a full quilt together but I'll  be able tell better once I get them under control if there is such a thing 🤣 so since January is for Blue I'm squeaking out a lap size top 

for this year I want to do a colorwash going from dark to light in each monthly color & adding the shadow effect , eventually I will take all my!  fabrics & cut them down into sizes the smallest being 2" anything smaller has got to go!😂
