Are You Ready For August?

For me,now as much as I am for Fall,LoL just above my nieces house there's this sunflower field, reminding me that our yearly family trip to the sunflower field is coming up

I started to do a recap for July but that would of been a sad post🤣 pillows,a robe & finishing up reds blocks for the rainbow Scrappy challenge was the only completions in the sewing room,July went to gardening, trying new recipes, adventures with family etc.

Grace & me got to have Sadie for the weekend,Sadie is a chocolate lab belonging to dear friends of mine

It's was unbearablely to hot to venture out,so it was a weekend of short playtime's in the back yard, comparing who had the longest tongue & naps

Betty Crocker's came out with a new cookie mix,at least new to me as it's the first I've seen it in our stores lol, it has pecan bits & when I say bits I mean you can't see them but you can feel them 😄so I added pecans,Sadie was like yum! oh my bad! did you want a picture?🤣

Catching Up On Reds For RSC

RSC is the Rainbow Scrappy Challenge hosted by Angela over at https://superscrappy.blogspot.com/p/rsc-2022.html

every year I tell myself I'm going to do something big & simple ,so far that thought hadn't worked 😄this year I have the bright idea of making all my blocks flow with a color wash look,so far I'm not seeing it lol

of course the madness of this thought wont be figured out till the end when all the colors are done,it may just be a big Scrappy mess, whatever the outcome I'm too far in to look back🤣

Blueberry Basil Limeade & A Walk In The Park

It was more humid than hot,as soon as we got out of the car Grace's tongue came out😄the breeze off the river made it bearable to walk for one lap around the park,I let her walk in the grass as much as possible

I tried a new recipe today,BLUEBERRY BASIL LIMEADE, I used fresh basil from my herb garden which is a collection of pots😄

Blueberry Basil 🌿 Limeade

1c. sugar

3 lg. sprigs of fresh basil

1& 1/2 c. fresh lime juice

(about 12 limes)

1 sm. 6oz. carton of blueberries

4c.cold water

*heat sugar & 1c.water till dissolved,remove from heat,cover & let seep for 30 min.

* strain into pitcher,removing basil

*add lime juice & 4c. cold water

*chill 4hrs or till ready to serve

*add blueberries

*pour over ice & garnish with basil

If you'd like a printout of this recipe you can Google Pioneer Woman, Blueberry Basil Limeade

I only had 6 limes so I only added 3c.cold water & it tasted just fine

Garden Harvest & Newborn Birdies

First squash & collards harvest, you'd be amazed how much a little makes for one person😬

the hummingbirds are starting to come around more, this little guy was so thirsty I thought he was going to get his head stuck lol

speaking of birds ,the little house wrens hatched this morning, all my life bird nest has been up high on a ledge or in a nearby tree making it impossible to see inside the nest, but little mama chose to build her nest in my house plant by the back door

no bigger than the tip of your finger & naked as a jaybird 🤣

Let's Start With Egg Custard

Do you luv egg custard pie but can't seem to get it to turn out just right? ,I started my morning off bright & early by pulling out an old recipe ,this was one of my husband's favorites but there was something about it that made it not want to set & cook right untill a friend gave me a recipe that calls to put all the ingredients into a blender, blend for about  one minute, pour into pie shell & bake for about 30-35 min.just look how pretty it turned out!

come on,give it a try,you can do it!😬
EGG CUSTARD PIE
into blender put
2eggs
1small can pet milk (5 oz.)
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon flour
1/2 stick melted butter
1 teaspoon vanilla
blend for about 1 min & pour into pie shell, bake @ 300 for. 40-45 min
all ovens are different ,mine took about 35min.

I finally got the rest of my flowers & herbs potted ,Grace is giving a final inspection,I think it was the lemon thyme that drew her in lol

Basel, lemon thyme, rosemary , parsley & dill will make for new recipe adventures, now let's get back to that pie!

since it's an "egg" I can have two slices, right?🤣 I couldn't wait to cut into  so I put in the refrigerator to speed up the cool down prosscess 😂

Gardening & Sewing Ideals

Now if I can keep the chipmunk at bay I'll be eating veggies pretty soon lol I've read that cyanne pepper will keep them out of the vegetable garden ,so I'm trying that & we'll see what happens

It may not seem much but enough for me &gives me something to do & keep me busy😬

Do you like to join in on sew alongs, participate in a good sewing challenge? I've done quite a few down through the years with Pattern Review,Ryans Case For Smiles is one of many charities for Children's Hospitals, Pat Salone has a mystery Christmas quilt sew along happening now

Do you ever feel you need to empty out the sewing room & start all over just to be able to sew  worth anything?🤣 so many projects,so many odd & ends to finish up,truth be told I'm playing in the dirt too much😂

Dragonflies are so deligant,I luv it when I get a good shot, they always seem to look at me like "what you looking at!" LoL

Rainey Days Calls For Robes & Cookies

I don't think anyone likes a trenchersul downpour with lightning but after it calms to a soft drizzle ,it begins to sooth the soul ,even the birds begin to sing agai

,
I had this top sheet which is soft flush like flannel, even though I've had it for about 7 years it's like new, reason being long story short one Christmas I'd bought me & both my girls a set for Christmas,daughters,son-in-laws,grandkids all over the place spending the night with us for our first Christmas in our house on the lake,I have haven't seen the bottom sheet to mine since & nobody will confess taking it to this day 🤣so I turned it into a robe

I shorten the sleeves so I could incorporate the band for cuffs, using Simplicity pattern 5931

Do you have a favorite go to cookie recipe? recently mine has been "sugar cookie for one" the recipe calls for a little of nothing  but will make one gigantic cookie, even halving the dough it will make 2 very large cookies,I have done both ways, but this time I doubled the recipe & decided it 3 ways

using a 1&1/2" scoop yielded 12 cookies

I had less than 1/2 block of chocolate in the freezer which I put in a baggie & banged with a hammer lol,a scant of sprinkles left & pecans yielding 4 of each,to the pecan batch I added a spoon of hobernaro sugar

SUGAR COOKIE FOR ONE

2 tbsp.soften butter
3 tbsp.sugar
2 tbsp beaten egg
1/2 tsp.vanilla flavoring
6 tbsp. all purpose flour
3/4 tsp . baking powder
2 tbsp.sprinkles (optional)

*NOTE*
*forget the butter in the fridge? no problem ,grating it will soften it
* use the whole egg for double batch
*I baked them on 340 for about 8 min

here is a picture of when I first tried this recipe,I made the original version, just look how big that baby is!😂 this is a fun little recipe to make with kids & grand kids as well ,what little one wouldn't want a life size cookie?🤣

F.O.N. Finished Friday

How would we survive without our UFO's LoL why can't I think to hold this in my lap & finish it while watching TV? LoL seriously all that's left for this time quilt is the sew down the binding

yet I venture off to start yet another quilt

have you ever had a quilt that your having a luv hate relationship with? LoL this little house quilt was started last year, the more I look at it the more I want to rip it all & I mean all apart & start over ,🤔 there's something about the dark blue border that's messing with me,should it be skinnier, lighter🤷

One thing for sure, there's always something happening in the sewing room😄

I Fought The Serger & Won! & Rainey Day Adventures

for as long as I've had this serger I've never threaded it,the video that came with it,had a hand in front of everything,my husband could thread it but when he passed I still couldn't figure it out & paid to have it threaded but a few days ago it came unthreaded& decided I was going to learn this!  & after a few days I finally found a YouTube link that shows an up close & clear view of how to thread it,after a few days,I finally got it! now to finish my robe, last thing is to sew the band down

today Grace 🐕& me started out with a trip to the nursery for a few flowers

now to get them in pots, paint pots just get some dirt & make them cute lol then a trip to the park

now that the sergers threaded back I'm looking forward to many hours in the sewing room,I may move the coffee pot in there🤣

Do You Have A Best Friend?

Growing up we can all recall best friends but as the years go by they would come & go,do you remember the little song

MAKE NEW FRIENDS

BUT KEEP THE OLD

ONE IS SILVER

AND THE OTHER ONE IS GOLD

Faye & I met when we were in our 50's & we've been the best of besties for  17 yrs,we took a short road trip to find a unique tucked away hole in the wall place to eat lol, it's a gas station/bait shop/country store/ dinner all wrapped up into one& those burgers were the biggest I'd seen in ages

so now we've decided to go on a search for such sweet little places lol,on the way home we stopped for dessert & coffee & a boutique shop which is close to my house ,I would of just kept Faye but I knew she'd wantta be home with hubby 😁 do you have a bestie that you like to take adventures with?

Garden Chronicles

You don't have to have a large space for a garden, not even a field ,I remember too well those endless garden rows growing up,all you need is a little space,a few pots, old tubs, old tires ,anything that'll hold dirt, growing up we had corn as far as the eyes could see but my 6-8 plants are enough & makes me happy watching the prosscess, there's carrots in amongst them too😁so grab some containers, paint um ,keep a journal, google the what's whys & whens, what a good feeling to have lunch at your finger tips & the joy of God's blessings noone but you will ever understand

just A Peek!

It's getting down to that last details of  decorating for my Tour Of Lights ,here's a little sneak peek of a few things  There'...
