Christmas In July Week 4 Recap

 

After a few attempts making a bowl cozy, I've just about got it ,. meanwhile I've been helping my friend Ree finish up some sewing but I did manage to pickup some batting for the Christmas quilt  have you ever made a bowl cozy?

Lunch was simple ,a cheese chaffel burger with sweetpotato fries ,the chaffel is also good alone when you want that cheese toast taste

1/2 c shredded cheese

I cook mine in a mini waffle!  maker

Tomorrow  starts the Southeastern Shoo Hop, our local shop is participating & the next closest is just an hour away so I wont venture out to far till later in the upcoming weeks lol 

Batting Disasters,Playtime & Cookies

 Another day that went nowhere fast, it was hot enough not to want to be outside for very long,I watered the flowers & the veggies & filled the bird feeders, I got the Christmas quilt laid out to baste & ready for quilting only to discover that the batting was not liking the basting spray, plus discovering it was shy of being wide enough, then it dawned on me why I didn't like that batting🤣 its ok for crafts,potholders etc.but not quilts , I will get better batting this weekend 

Anybody joining in All Southeast Shop Hop? There's one shop in my area  "Scattered Threads" & one an hour from me "Scrap Iron Quilting"  that I absolutely luv! That's where I get my batting when I can

Meanwhile Grace & Sadie did get a little playtime in, 5 min or so & they were back in taking a nap,it wasn't long I was joining in on a nap,we blame it on the heat 

Sometimes cookies make it better , especially when they're easy peasy

1 c peanut butter

1 egg

1 c sugar

Scroop onto parchment paper,criss cross marks with fork,bake @ 350 8-10 min

They will look like they're not done ,check the bottoms,they will firm up slightly but still be nice & soft

I made these with Splenda baking sugar,when using spender use 1/2 c ,I started keeping  them in the fridge they taste good cold,but that could just be me😄 

Red & White Layout 5 Rows In!

  Math! Math! Math! You either hate it or  luv it😄the layout for a full is 24x28 but I want the 1st row to start & end with red so it will be a 25x29 layout ,it wont take as long putting this too together for I just have to cut the strips & cut the previous blocks apart & downsize,if you're just stumbling across the red & white journey I've went from bad fabric to 5" squares to 3 1/2" 

I'm  5 rows in!

gathered up & pinned 🤔I could probably just lay out row 5 & go from there the next time I work on it

Final Layout For The Red & White Checkered

 Here we are overthinking the red & white checkerboard again , the 1st layout I cut 5" squares ,the white stuck out like a sore thumb so they went from 5" to 4 1/2" to 4"  then I pulled in the floral print so now we have red,white ,floral cut down to 3 1/2" 😄 one way or another this is going to be the final straw but which one?🤷 😄

this layout the red's are going towards the left which spaces out the floral print

with this layout the reds are going towards the right which pulls in more of the  floral

this layout was my original plan ,cutting the squares down to 3 1/2" seems to have calmed down the white,its hard to see in the pic's but the red & the white are print on print

Now to decide on a final layout,#1 🤷 #2 🤷 #3 🤷now backing I was thinking white with the floral added or the floral if I go with the checker board🤷

Christmas In July Week 3/ Enlarging The Christmas Top

 

There's something about when leaving the house you can't seem to make it back😄 ,had a hair appointment to shape up my hair ,went by walmart for odds & ends, the nail salon I use is one street over so as long as I was out why not🤷its been months & my toes needed attention 😄 by this time its late & I was hungry so  chinese to go for supper & headed home ,I added another border to the Christmas top on the sides matching the top & bottom which framed it up nicely ,got the binding cut out & handing in the closet with the top waiting its turn to be quilted 

Block Drive

 I should had picked another project to work on today,I feel like I was going nowhere fast 😄 started working on Oh Scrap's Block Drive

Blocks are made up of yellows,purples,greens,reds,blues & oranges, colors in my stash that no longer will stretch to 4.5" ,with 6 strips in the block I'm finding there's not enough verity of one color ,when I was squeezing out the purples the block came out 8"  not 8.5 ,how did I lose 1/2" 🙆 

I have to get out tomorrow so I guess I'll be visiting the fabric shop😄

Mending, Besties & Gardening

 There's rain in the forecast ,meanwhile its just plain hot, mending the binding on the quilt Terry's grandmother made us for our first Christmas in 1974, 74 was the year she decided to make all the married grandchildren a quilt for Christmas,since we were getting married on the 28th just 3 days pass christmas,she added us to the list,we used it for a little while for shed wanna know lol,through the years it hung  on a wall quilt rack,the years has taken its toil on the binding, nothing a needle & thread cant fix,it will hang again over the antique bed that was Terry's grandparents first bed when they married,this little house is slowly undergoing changes,things that matter most as I go through nearly 50 years of stuff,things that matters most,things that brings me joy,things that make me smile,this year will mark 10 years since he passed & some days its still hard to filter through things

We have Sadie for the weekend & Grace is super excited! Sadie is already telling her secrets 😄

The basil is getting ready to flower &  not sure what to do with it at this point,you can only put it on pizza so many times😄 the squash is finally coming out,I think it'll take till Christmas for the brussel sprouts to come out lol,the Roma tomatoes are doing good so far,I moved the watermelon plant to get more sunshine,it took to the transplant & is blooming!

 

A Slow Day Calls For Stitching

 Oh how I wished it could be a pj kind of day but at some point I've got to get out & pick up dog food for Grace🐕my bad for not picking it up yesterday,we have been going through some extreme heat waves this week with heat index as high as 105🌡️slow days calls for slow stitching,a stitch here a stitch there,stitching in the morning stitching in the evening & so on ,working on pages in the slow stitch journal,this has been a work in progress for the last 2 years,I now know why they call it slow stitching😄 

Only 2-3 pages to finish the little Christmas slow stitch journal from a stitch along last January 

The biggest thing I'm working on today is the final stitching around the binding on this quilt, I'm going for the win by midnight on this one!🤣

Christmas In July Week 2

 

I think I have the biggest Christmas projects done that I wanted to get a head start on, our fabric shops haven't put out much Christmas fabric just yet so Im stil looking for that just right fabric for aprons.but I think I have enough left from the red & white top for pillow covers

I finished up the keyboard boarders & added another white boarder at 3" so we have a 2" white boarder, a 2x4 keyboard boarder & a 3" white outer boarder

It measures out to a 64 x 76 it goes all the way across the bed but I feel it could go with another boarder but happy the way it is "for now" it will be more of a decor part of my ted & white guest room theme for Christmas 

Doing the math ,it comes out 7.5 strips for binding,I cut 8,always leaving room for just in case & mistakes lol I didn't fold it in half as it'll be over in the Fall before I quilt it ,rolled onto a t-paper roll

Then placed over the top of the hanger with the top & moved into the holding room "closet" 😄

Progress On The Red & White

This top has been screaming to be turned into a quilt for I know 10 years if not more so I pulled her out to join in my Christmas In July to myself,I don't join in any Christmas In July  groups or challenges, " I challenge  myself"😄,getting a head start in July is something I've done for years so there's no pressure of how much actually  gets done ,  so far I've gotten a 2" white border on all 4 sides & a 2x4 keyboard style border on the sides, top & bottom to go & possibly another white border

A Day Of Antiquing Part 3 (coming home)

 The boys were happy  for our last adventure "Golden Corral" they couldn't understand why we'd spend the day looking at "old stuff" 😄 we ate way too much & the drive home was absolutely gorgeous! Today I will spend the day finishing up extending the red & white quilt top & working on Christmas in July projects, August will be here before we know it & there's a few quilt shops we plan to visit  for the quilt shop hop

A Day Of Antiquing Part 2

 From Prattville to Montgomery was just  a little less than 30 minutes away so why not? 🤷 so off to adventure #2 to the East Brook Mall, this mall has 3 floors & we're pretty sure we didn't see it all lol by this time the boys were hungry & so were we😄so off to Golden Corral!
